Get It Together (GIT) High  School Seat Belt Challenge

The Get It Together Seat Belt Challenge is a peer-to-peer education campaign and competition between area high schools to increase seat belt usage. The Challenge began in 1995, and since then, over 875,000 students in Hampton Roads have been involved in the Challenge. Each year, groups of students work together at their schools to stress the importance of wearing seat belts. They collect pledges from their students to always buckle up, coordinate assemblies on seat belt use, perform skits, form traffic safety clubs, and more during a five-month period. Students also work with community liaisons to perform seat belt checks as they arrive at school in the morning to gauge if their efforts successfully raise the percentage of students buckling up. Since the program’s inception, all schools have seen an increase in belt use during the Challenge.

Old, Used, Borrowed and  Abused Child Safety Seat  Round-Up

The Round-Up is an annual collection of old and broken child safety seats. These seats are collected for recycling by our partner businesses throughout the month of February. The program began in 1989, and today, it is the oldest continually running child safety seat collection program in the country. Year after year, this effort allows Drive Safe Hampton Roads to prevent injuries and fatalities among children by removing expired, broken, and otherwise defective child restraints from our roadways.
