DRIVE SAFE HAMPTON ROADS is a non-profit
coalition of traffic safety advocates. Our goal
is to increase involvement awareness of
traffic safety in Hampton Roads. Membership
is free and open to anyone interested in pre-
venting death and injury on our highways.
Nomination Form...
Include the following information in a maximum of two pages( in the text box to the right.).
• Background information on the program. Why did it occur? Include statistics on what problem existed.
• A brief program description. How was the program unique, what made it different?
• Outstanding elements or accomplishment of the program.
• Estimated number of people impacted by the activity
• Describe any public or private resources used to implement the program. How was volunteer time utilized for the program?
• In addition to two written pages, you may include additional program documentation. Supplemental materials such as testimonial letters, media coverage, photographs. audio tapes, videos or other unique features of the activity will enhance your nomination.

Be sure to include your name and the person or organization nominated on all electronically transmitted media.)
Lifetime Safety Achievement Award: Presented for lifetime achievement in the area of transportation safety.
Employer Safety: Presented for employers who have taken the extra initiative to promote traffic safety and encourage their employees to practice safe driving behaviors.
Martin H. Schlosser Award for Traffic Safety Activism: Presented for outstanding efforts in educating citizens and changing attitudes and behavior regarding transportation safety. Individuals and/or organizations that show exemplary achievement in the design and/or implementation of highway engineering techniques will also be considered for this award.
Impaired Driving Prevention: Presented for encouraging the prevention of drunk and/or drugged driving.
Law Enforcement: Presented to law enforcement department or individuals who have shown extra initiative to promote and encourage safety in their community.
Legal: Presented to attorneys or judges who have actively supported safety issues thus strengthening existing laws and creating new laws.
Media: Presented to media representatives or a news outlet that has helped spread the word about traffic safety through fair and accurate reporting or programming.
Occupant Protection: Presented for promoting and encouraging the use of safety belts and/or child safety seats through creative and innovative programs and activities.
Public Transportation Safety: Presented for contributions made in educating drivers and riders about safety on public transportation.
Pupil Transportation Safety: Presented for encouraging, educating, and/or promoting safety in pupil transportation thus improving safety for drivers and riders.
Youth Traffic Safety: Presented for persons or programs educating youth and spreading the message on the importance of youth traffic safety.
Eligibility
Any individual, organization, business or governmental agency in the greater Hampton Roads area, which promotes community traffic safety, i.e. sober driving, safety belts, bicycle and pedestrian safety, etc. is eligible for nomination. 2009 JOHN T. HANNA AWARD winners are not eligible for 2010 nomination.
Rules
Eligible activities, programs or materials are those that were begun, completed, published or produced in the period from October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2010. Entries must be postmarked no later than November 1, 2010.
Materials
For entry materials to be returned after judging, proper postage and a mailing label must be enclosed.
Selection
The awards selection committee is made up of Drive Safe Hampton Roads members. Entries will be judged on: potential impact on the community, use of volunteers and private sector resources, creativity and imagination, quality of content, and supporting materials that enhance the project.
Notification
Winners will be notified by November 15, 2010.
Presentation
An individual award and/or an organizational award may be given in each category. They will be presented at the annual Awards Luncheon on December 7, 2010.
