On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at 8:00 a.m., Drive Safe Hampton Roads’ Peninsula and Specialized Transportation Safety Committees will be working alongside local motor carrier units to conduct the 8th Annual Peninsula Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver Appreciation Day. Sponsors include AAA Tidewater Virginia, Capital Concrete Inc., Pepsi Beverages Company, Chick-Fil-A @ Harbour View, Suffolk, Story’s Distributing, DMV: The Virginia Highway Safety Office, DRIVE SMART Virginia, Newport News Police Department, Newport News Shipbuilding, Coastal Ride, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Local Law Enforcement Motor Carrier Units Motor Carrier Safety Inspectors.

Drive Safe Hampton Roads and Hampton Roads’ law enforcement motor carrier teams come together to distribute goodies during an “alternate type” of roadway safety regulation stop. This event is held at the beginning of the busy summer season to promote highway safety. Drive Safe Hampton Roads (DSHR) is a non-profit regional coalition whose mission is to increase the community's involvement in and awareness of traffic safety issues and to reduce the number of crashes, injuries and fatalities on our roadways.

This event is held on Interstate 664 near the Monitor Merrimac Tunnel at the northbound inspection station. Commercial Drivers are encouraged to stop in to receive food, fellowship, and safe driving reminders. This event begins at 8:00 a.m., and will conclude when everything is distributed.

Remember to Buckle up for Safety this Summer Season!
