As the impacts of coronavirus continue to take hold of daily life as Americans know it, the impacts have begun to appear in the U.S. economy as well. Today, data was released by the U.S. Employment and Training Administration that reports 3,283,000 people filed for unemployment benefits between March 14 and March 21.
Recent numbers represent a five-fold increase in the highest-ever recorded claims our country has seen, and likely understates the problem as many workers do not qualify for unemployment benefits (some part-time and low-wage workers, independent contractors, and the self-employed).
