Driven to Protect | Virginia Initiative — Is an Example of the Collaborative Technological Innovation Happening in Virginia
The Driven to Protect Virginia Initiative is a public-private partnership
between the Automotive Coalition for Traffic Safety (ACTS) and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. ACTS represents the world’s automakers and leads the Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety (DADSS) Program, in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The program is developing a first-of-its-kind technology called the alcohol detection system that will detect when a driver is impaired with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) at or above 0.08 percent and prevent the vehicle from moving. Driven To Protect Virginia is the first state partnership dedicated to advancing technology that can prevent alcohol-impaired driving and educating the public about this technology and responsible driving behavior.
