Free 757 Sober LYFT Rides on St. Patrick's Day

Hampton Roads, Va. (March 1, 2023) – The hardest part of St. Patrick’s Day is the mourning after. Plan ahead for a sober ride before you reach the pint of no return! Use Drive Safe HR’s 757 Sober Ride powered by Lyft.
Free or reduced fare rides are being offered to drivers in Hampton Roads who are using alcohol on St. Patrick’s Day 2023. Drive Safe Hampton Roads (DSHR) is sponsoring 757 Sober Ride for St. Patrick’s Day from 4 p.m. on Friday, March 17th until 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18th.
During the twelve-hour period, area residents age 21 and older celebrating with alcohol may download the Lyft app to their phones, then enter the 757 Sober Ride code in the app’s “Payment” tab (under the “Add Lyft Pass” option) to receive their no-cost (up to $15) safe transportation home. DSHR’s 2023 St. Patrick’s Day 757 Sober Ride promo code will be posted at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17th, at www.DriveSafeHR.org/757SoberRide.
According to the NHTSA, approximately one-third of all traffic crash fatalities in the United States involve drunk drivers (with BACs at or above .08). During the 2016-2020 St. Patrick’s Day holiday period (6 p.m. March 16 to 5:59 a.m. March 18), 287 lives were lost in drunk-driving crashes.** In an effort to reduce injuries and fatalities in Hampton Roads, DSHR partners with Lyft to promote the 757 Sober Ride campaign for rides starting and/or ending in Hampton Roads. Sponsors of the 2023 757 Sober Ride campaign include the Christopher King Foundation and the Virginia DMV.
“St. Patrick’s Day is one of the biggest drinking day’s of the year. Which means ta lot of drunk drivers on the road. If you plan to drink, please don’t drive. Be smart, plan ahead, and use 757 Sober Ride to get home safely. The life you save maybe your own, or someone you love.” said Pat Davidson, 757 Sober Ride Chairperson. The program is patterned after the highly successful, award-winning SoberRide® program conducted by the non-profit Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP).
