Christopher King Foundation’s 2nd Annual Car Show

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Christopher King Foundation’s 2nd Annual Car Show!

Christopher King was killed in a car crash on July 4, 2020, shortly
after graduating high school. Since then, the King family has
worked
tirelessly to promote safe driving for teens.

Hampton Roads, Va. (June 20, 2022) – There are too many roadside memorials. In this case, the passenger was a young man named Christopher King, not even out of his teens and full of life, love and promise. But that ended on July 4, 2020, when a senseless car crash, on a desolate airport road, snuffed out what would have been a life of accomplishment and meaning. Together, we can work toward not letting this tragedy happen again – to your kids, to anyone’s kids. Never again.

Last year, over the 4th of July weekend, The Christopher King Foundation and Drive Safe Hampton Roads partnered for the first car show event to honor Chris’ memory and to promote safe driving for teens.  Funds raised at this event were invested back into the community through Drive Safe Hampton Roads’ Get It Together Seat Belt Challenge (GIT) program.  This program educates young drivers in the area high schools and uses a student driven education program and seat belt observations to change behavior.  Held yearly since 1995, GIT reaches more than 20,000 teens every year.

This year, the Christopher King Foundation will be holding the 2nd annual ‘Cars for Chris’ car show on Saturday, June 25, 2022, from 9 am - 1 pm, at the Williamsburg-Jamestown Airport.  The address is 100 Marclay Drive, Williamsburg, VA 23185.

Rain date is Sunday, June 26, 2022.  Spectators are free to attend.  To register a vehicle: https://tinyurl.com/4kc8e2eh.

The aim of this June 25th event is to increase seat belt use awareness and to encourage safe driving behaviors for teens in Hampton Roads.  According to 2020 statistics from the DMV, there were 3,885 teens involved in crashes in the Hampton Roads area, resulting in 1,297 injuries and 7 fatalities.  In 2021, there were 35 fatalities, a 17% increase, between the ages of 15-19 in a crash that involved a teen driver and an unrestrained person.  Investigative reports show the primary causes of teen deaths on the roadways are driver inexperience, driver distraction, no seat belts, and excessive speed.

The Christopher King Foundations invites all car clubs, car enthusiasts, and spectators to
attend this fun and educational event. The show will be held in an open-category format
where anyone can drive in with their automotive ‘pride and joy’ and compete for trophies.
There will also be safety demonstrations, food trucks and, of course, – planes!
All for the best cause…working to save the lives of our youngest drivers and their passengers.
