Looking Forward With Tina Mann, Vice-President

With 2025 ending and 2026 right around the corner, DSHR is ready to tackle the new year. We want to reach out to every age group to educate drivers and create safer roads. 2026 will continue with the following programs:

  • 757 Sober Ride – If you are not sober, do not drive. Use Drive Safe HR’s 757 Sober Ride powered by Lyft. The IDP Committee is partnering with 25 VaABC stores, so your help in servicing a store is needed. The committee will also be adding a “Drowsy Driving” page on our website, developing cannabis driving and drowsy driving ads, and increasing our imprint on the community with additional community events.

  • Get It Together High School Seat Belt Challenge is a program led by Drive Safe Hampton Roads and supported by other traffic safety groups. Local high schools compete to raise students’ awareness of the importance of wearing seat belts every time they ride in a vehicle.

  • In 1991, Concerned Citizens Advocating Traffic Safety (CCATS) instituted the JOHN T. HANNA AWARDS. Named after Virginia’s “Father of Transportation Safety,” these awards honor those who share John T. Hanna’s tireless dedication and commitment to improving traffic safety on Virginia’s highways.  Be sure to submit your nomination before January 16.

If you are passionate about traffic safety, then 2026 is the time to increase your volunteerism. By becoming an active and involved part of our action-oriented organization, you’ll be joining a community of like-minded individuals who care deeply about creating safer roads for everyone.

Together, we can drive change and save lives. Get involved today and let’s make a difference! JOIN US!
