DRIVE SAFE HAMPTON ROADS INC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving roadway safety and reduce death and injury from vehicle crashes using initiatives that include educational programs, information sharing, and partnerships with public and private sector organizations.

Position Summary:

The position includes work in many diverse areas: marketing, fundraising, finance, volunteer management, community relations, coalition building, and impact strategy.

Role Description:

This is a part-time, grant-funded, home-based hybrid role for an Occupant Protection (OP) Administrative Coordinator, located in Hampton Roads, Virginia, primarily Southside. Applicants must be available to work during core daytime business hours and complete occasional weekend tasks without conflict.


Responsibilities include providing administrative support for occupant protection programs, managing documentation, coordinating meetings, handling financial and clerical tasks, and maintaining effective communication with volunteers, partners and stakeholders. The coordinator will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of occupant protection initiatives and supporting organizational goals.

Worksite:

Location: Based in Hampton Roads, VA area. Home-based office with limited local and regional travel.

Compensation:

$25/hour, Part-time, approximately 20 hours/week or approximately 1040
hours/grant year. Hours may fluctuate weekly based on project timelines. Various locations and travel time to assignments will be included as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Strong Communication and Customer Service skills to effectively interact with team members, volunteers, sponsors, and program participants.
  • Proficiency in Administrative Assistance and Organization to manage documentation, meetings, and program logistics efficiently.
  • Able to work independently, take ownership of tasks, and manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detail.
  • Basic knowledge of finance and budgeting to support project-related financial tasks.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities to handle multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Proficiency in relevant office software and tools is a plus.
  • Previous experience in nonprofit or program coordination roles is beneficial.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to reliably commute within Hampton Roads, VA.
  • Availability to work during core business hours and complete occasional weekend tasks without conflict.
  • Background experience or interest in non-profit traffic safety activism is preferred but not required.

General Duties:

  • Responsible for day-to-day OP office functions, meetings, correspondence, reports, volunteer management, and event execution, assists in the general marketing activities of the organization.
  • Under the direction of the Occupant Protection Committee Chair, coordinate and manage the following DSHR projects: Old, Used, Borrowed and Abused Child Safety Seat Round-Up and Recycling events, Get It Together High School Seat Belt Challenge.

Benefits:

  • This is a contract position, with the grant year running from October 1 until September 30 of the following year. The person in this position will be responsible for his/her state, federal taxes, and social security deductions. An IRS 1099 form will be given to the employee by January 31st of the following contract year.
