Truckers Buckle up for Safety this Holiday Season!

What: Annual Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver Appreciation Day

When: Tuesday, December 16, 2025, 9:00am-11:00am

Where: Southside Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel Inspection Station on Interstate 664 North, in the city of Suffolk.

Why: This event is held annually during the busy holiday season to promote highway safety and express gratitude to the Hampton Roads trucking community. Drive Safe Hampton Roads and Hampton Roads’ law enforcement motor carrier teams will come together to distribute educational materials and to remind drivers to buckle up. Commercial motor vehicle drivers are encouraged to participate. Along with safe driving materials, food and refreshments will be provided.

Who: Drive Safe Hampton Roads Specialized Transportation Safety Committee and Hampton Roads law enforcement motor carrier teams.

Additional partners include the Virginia Department of Transportation, Vulcan Materials, AAA Tidewater Virginia, Tidewater Community College Truck Driver Program, Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Trauma Services, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Commission, DRIVE SMART Virginia, and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.

**This event provides great video and interview opportunities for all platforms. Onsite coordination will be provided. **

Drive Safe Hampton Roads (DSHR) is a non-profit regional coalition whose mission is to improve highway safety and reduce injuries and deaths from vehicle crashes. For over 37 years, Drive Safe Hampton Roads has promoted citizen involvement and community awareness as we strive toward zero deaths on our region’s roadways.
