28th Annual Southside Commercial Vehicle Driver Appreciation Day (DAD)

Remember to Buckle up for Safety this Holiday Season!

Hampton Roads, VA. (UPDATED December 07, 2021) – On Monday, December 13, 2021, from 8-10 am, Drive Safe Hampton Roads’ Specialized Transportation Safety Committee will be working with Motor Carrier Safety Inspectors from Suffolk, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Virginia Beach to conduct this annual Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver Appreciation Day. DSHR has organized DAD for 28 years. Additional partners include Chick-fil-A @ Salem Crossing & Parkway Plaza, Rigdon Escort Service, AAA Tidewater Virginia, Capital Concrete, Inc., Spivey Rentals, Story Distributing, DRIVE SMART Virginia, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, City of Virginia Beach Public Utilities, Virginia DMV, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Regent University Psychological Services Center, and Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Commission.

This event is held during the busy holiday season to promote highway safety. Drive Safe Hampton Roads and other Hampton Roads’ law enforcement motor carrier teams come together to distribute educational materials and to remind drivers to buckle up during an “alternate type” of roadway safety regulation stop. This event is held on Interstate 264 eastbound near South Independence Blvd. at the old Toll Plaza. Commercial Drivers are encouraged to drive through to receive food and safe driving reminders. This event runs from 8-10am.
