Abused Child Safety Seats!

Hampton Roads, VA. (April, 2026) – Spring is approaching, which means it’s time for “spring cleaning”. Why not get rid of that unused child safety seat that’s been sitting in the garage? As part of the “Old, Used, Borrowed and Abused Child Safety Seat Round-Up” program, Drive Safe Hampton Roads (DSHR) is participating in a series of community recycling events.

Drive Safe Hampton Roads encourages everyone to “round-up” their old child safety seats and bring them to one of five upcoming recycling days and locations. The goal for the Round-Up is to convince parents and caregivers to turn in old, used or potentially dangerous safety seats so they are not resold or given to unsuspecting parents or caregivers.

Drop them off at the following dates and times:

Waste Management of Virginia, Inc. will recycle all collected safety seats. Not only will recycling these seats eliminate the potential danger to children, but it will also provide positive benefits to the community by utilizing a “greener” alternative for disposal.

Virginia law requires all children under the age of eight be properly restrained in an approved Department of Transportation (DOT) child restraint. This law applies to any driver, not just the parent or guardian, in any vehicle, on any highway in Virginia.
